Meatless

I'm starting to reconsider this Lent thing with the no meat on Fridays.  After reading the book Freakonomics, I think it somewhat compares to the same principles of striking on gas for a day.  People will just load up on it the day before or after.  I mean, shit, I wait til the stroke of midnight Friday night so that it's officially Saturday and then I get some burgers or something.

I mean, I guess there's a principle/meaning/gesture behind it, but same goes with a gas strike.  I don't know if that's sacreligious to say, but it seems to be along the same lines.

From what I read, it started out when people had to store up food for winter and towards the end they would have more scarce portions and would have to cut back.  So they would have to wait for spring to come by for them to feast again, since food would be more abundant then.  This is what it is supposed to remind us of.  However, we aren't too reminded of this since we can feast our little hearts out on Thursday up until midnight and Saturday at midnight.

I don't know.  But I gave up sweets for Lent and maybe it's making me a little grumpy, haha.
